Exploring the Future of the BGC Argo Program

Join a workshop examining options for the future of the biogeochemical (BGC) Argo program. The workshop will be held at the National Academies Beckman Center in Irvine, CA and virtually on April 9 – 10, 2026, from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (PT).

The National Academies are convening a workshop to explore options for the future of the BGC Argo program. BGC Argo expands the core Argo float network by measuring key biogeochemical variables that improve understanding of ocean health, carbon cycling, and climate processes.

 

Cross-sector experts will discuss the scientific value of the program, operational and technical challenges, and pathways for transitioning BGC Argo to a sustainable long-term operational model. The workshop will provide a forum for examining potential governance, funding, and coordination approaches to support continued observations and data availability.
